2008 Activities
We had special events for students and postdocs throughout the Teratology Society Annual Meeting. These events were planned to allow students and scientists in our field to interact. They included:
Teratology Society XXVII Annual Volleyball Game - The 27th Annual Volleyball Game was held Saturday, June 28 at 12:15 - 1:30 PM in Monterey, CA.
Saturday Mixer – A mixer was held to encourage students and postdoctoral attendees to get to know one another before the start of the Annual Meeting. The mixer took place in the Knuckles Bar at the Hyatt Regency Monterey at 5:30 PM. Students and postdocs who were given a coupon for this event. Mixer participants gathered in groups of 6 - 8 to redeem their coupons for a free drink and an appetizer to share.
Dine with a Teratology Ambassador – students and postdocs signed up to have a free lunch or dinner with a member of the Teratology Society. This was an opportunity to meet with former Society Presidents, Council members, committee chairs or other Teratology members in a small group setting. In addition to getting a free meal, participants networked and asked questions about the Society, career paths, job opportunities, etc.
MARTA/MTA Student Career Event - Once again MARTA/MTA sponsored a Student Career Event with dinner, conversation, and networking on Monday, June 30, from 7:30 PM-9:30 PM. This popular annual event was for students and postdocs attending the joint annual meetings of the Teratology Society, NBTS, and OTIS. This event helps students prepare for the next phase of their professional career, and offered the opportunity to meet fellow students and postdocs and to interact with scientists from academia, government, and industry.
