Over the past 50 years, Robert Brent, MD, PhD has counseled thousands of pregnant patients and families who have been exposed to environmental toxicants and were concerned about the welfare of their future child. In many instances, the families had previously been inappropriately advised to interrupt wanted pregnancies. Dr. Brent’s advice has led these families to reevaluate their situation and, in many cases, bring their child to term. “You can save lives in many ways,” says Dr. Brent.
Because of this work, and unbeknownst to Dr. Brent, a student nominated Dr. Brent for the Castle-Connolly National Physician of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Brent, one of hundreds to be nominated, was selected as one of the two 2011 award recipients.
The Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. website states, “The National Physician of the Year Awards recognize both physicians and leaders in healthcare whose dedication, talents and skills have improved the lives of countless thousands of people throughout the world. This event is a tribute not only to the awardees but to the excellence of the many thousands of practicing physicians throughout the nation.”
Castle Connolly will host its sixth annual National Physician of the Year Awards on March 28, 2011, at the historic Hudson Theater in Times Square. Dr. Brent will be lecturing in Jerusalem at the time, so he will receive his award at the 2012 ceremony.
