New guidelines for voluntary oversight of hESC research
have been published by the International Society for Stem Cell Research
(ISSCR). These are similar to those developed by the National
Academy of Science. Both of these guidelines are open for
comment. The Teratology Society, under the charge of the Public
Affairs Committee, is requesting your review and comment on the
guidelines, specifically on the recently issued document from ISSCR.
Society member, Don Stedman and his colleague Jennifer Paquette
have agreed to coordinate the response that will be sent to the
FASEB stem cell committee for inclusion in their response to the
new guidelines and to ISSCR. Comments are due by TUESDAY AUGUST
15 in order to meet the September 1 deadline. Send your comments
to tshq@teratology.org.
Please take time to look at these documents and send in your comments.
Even if you have provided your thoughts in other venues, it is never
hurts to reiterate a point. This is an important and critical
issue for many of our members and it is an opportunity for our Society
to influence the direction of work in this area.
