The efforts of John Graham and the Program Committee have resulted in an outstanding program for our 51st Annual Meeting. As we prepare to meet in Coronado Bay in June, we must also turn our attention to the planning of the next annual meeting at the Marriott Baltimore Waterfront, in Baltimore, Maryland in June 2012. At this time the general membership is invited to submit their input regarding scientific sessions and educational topics.
The theme for the 2012 meeting is "Global Perspectives in Teratology". To stimulate your thoughts around this theme, some ideas for possible sessions might include:
Symposia on teratology projects in developing countries
Sessions on specific problems which are global in nature, e.g. malaria, premature birth, AIDS, water quality issues, dietary deficiencies, pollution. Ideally this would link epidemiology, clinical and basic research aspects.
Challenges for international harmonization of toxicity testing requirements.
Opportunities for global outreach and partnership with global public health organizations (e.g. WHO, UNEP).
Advancing 21st century predictive developmental toxicology: applications in the search for safer, more sustainable products.
Improving maternal-child health globally: what to focus on, what will success look like?
In addition, we are already working with our sister societies, OTIS and NBTS, to develop joint symposia and welcome such collaborative proposals.
The Program Committee for the 2012 Annual Meeting will review the suggested proposals for sessions prior the meeting in Coronado Bay. This approach will help ensure coverage of cutting-edge research, clinical-epidemiological translation, and regulatory-policy aspects that are important to the various sectors of the Teratology Society.
You are invited and encouraged to submit proposals for consideration to EWCarney@dow.com beginning today through April 18, 2011.
